What is Give What It Takes?
Give What It Takes is a campaign to get more people to donate to non-profit organizations and individuals who are working to create social change. In tough economic times, budgets get slashed and grants get chopped. Many non-profits will be forced to cut programming and personel simply becasue they have no more money. Yet the problems they are working to solve don’t go away. These organizations and individuals are left to try and succeed with even fewer staff and resources.
It doesn’t have to be this way. We all can do our part to support, even if in a small way, the work that these organizations and individuals are doing. Every little bit helps. You can also help by asking people in your sphere of influence to support a cause as well.
You may be asking “what do I actually need to do?” Well, let me lay it out for you:
1. Find an organization or individual who is fighting for social change in an area that you philosophically support.
2. Make a monetary donation, small or large, to them on the last day of the month.
3. Announce your donation on Twitter (if you Tweet) like this: I gave here today (URL or the organization/individual) Change just happened! #givewhatittakes so that others can check it out.
4. Encourage your friends and family to do the same.
Give What It Takes occurs on the LAST DAY OF EVERY MONTH. In the meantime, I will use this site to highlight individuals and organizations who are out there creating social change. If you’d like me to showcase a particular person or organization, send me their website address and a short blurb about why you think they deserve to be highlighted. I will post that to my blog as your recommendation.
Change just happened!
